Saint George Methodist Church Beliefs

Our Foundation

We believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, risen and reigning, and in the power of the Holy Spirit to transform lives. We affirm the core doctrines of the Christian faith as expressed in:

  • The Apostles’ Creed
  • The Nicene Creed
  • The Articles of Religion of the Methodist Church
  • The Confession of Faith of the Evangelical United Brethren Church

These timeless statements reflect the heart of our faith and our call to live as disciples of Jesus Christ.

Our Mission

We are called to:

  • Proclaim the Gospel – Introducing all people to the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
  • Grow in Holiness – Encouraging spiritual growth through worship, Bible study, and discipleship.
  • Love God and Neighbor – Living out the Great Commandment in our homes, church, and community.
  • Empower Leadership – Equipping both clergy and laity to use their gifts in ministry.
  • Foster Unity – Working with the global Body of Christ to advance God’s Kingdom.

What We Believe

The Bible

We believe the Holy Bible is the inspired Word of God and the final authority for faith and life. It reveals God’s truth and guides us in how we live, worship, and serve.

God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

We believe in one God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—three in one, eternally existing and working together in creation, salvation, and sanctification.

Jesus Christ

We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God, fully divine and fully human. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sins, rose again, and reigns as Lord. Salvation comes through Him alone, by grace through faith.

Salvation by Grace

We affirm the Wesleyan understanding of grace:

  • Prevenient grace awakens us to our need for God.
  • Justifying grace makes us right with God through faith in Christ.
  • Sanctifying grace transforms us daily into the likeness of Christ.
Our ultimate hope is glorification—eternal life with God, body and soul renewed.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin, empowers us for holy living, and equips the Church for ministry and mission. We rely on His presence to bear fruit and fulfill God’s purposes.

The Church

The Church is the Body of Christ, called to worship, serve, and make disciples. We believe in the priesthood of all believers—the shared calling of clergy and laity to ministry.

The Sacraments

We celebrate two sacraments:

  • Baptism – A sign of new birth and entrance into the Christian life.
  • Holy Communion – A remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice and a means of grace to His followers.

Holy Living

We believe holiness is not just personal, but also relational and communal. We are called to pursue Christlike love, to grow together in faith, and to serve others with compassion and humility.

Our Witness to the World

We believe:

  • Every person is made in the image of God and should be treated with dignity and respect.
  • Life is sacred—from the unborn to the elderly.
  • Marriage is a sacred covenant between one man and one woman.
  • God’s people are called to be light in the darkness, standing for truth, mercy, justice, and grace.

We welcome all to experience the redemptive grace of Jesus, no matter their past, and we seek to be a place of refuge, truth, and healing.
